This section covers the remaining scenarios that are applicable for communication attachments. The focus here would be the calculations of loads and resulting tensions under the same initial conditions as under the different wire configuration tests.

1. Figure 8 wire/cables. The messenger/strand is mechanically bonded to a communications cable using extruded PVC.

For this test a small and larger Figure 8 cable is required. Both cables use a 1/4 EHS messenger with the following parameters:

       Small:         Corning ALTOS Figure 8 Non-Armoured(EWA) containing 72 fibres. Weight=0.318kg/m. Height=12.2mm.

Large:         Corning ALTOS Figure 8 Armoured(EWB) containing 192 fibres. Weight=0.555kg/m. Height=21.801mm.

2. Standard Communication Bundles. This test is designed to cover a range of communication bundles that are possible, varying the number and diameters of attached cables.

Messenger should have the following characteristics:

The cable is assumed to be wire lashed after messenger is initially tensioned. The effective bundle diameter should be recorded, if available. Scenarios are made from the following assumed cables:

Tests:

  • (1) AVG0.2 cable
  • (1) AVG1.8 cable
  • (2) AVG0.4 cables
  • (3) AVG0.4 cables
  • (4) AVG0.4 cables
  • (6) AVG0.2 cables
  • (4) AVG0.4 cables + AVG1.8 cable
  • (1) AVG0.2 cable + (1) AVG1.8 cable
  • (1) AVG0.2 cable + (2) AVG1.8 cables
