IUSI Steel Poles

Unread postby Sonideft » Wed May 07, 2025 8:02 am

It was brought to our attention that the posted pole database file for IUSI Steel Poles did not have the correct value for ultimate fibre stress. Instead it had another value from the manufacturer's documentation that was meant for something else.

For all pole types, the average or statistical norm of the ultimate fibre stress is required to work properly in structural designs according to National standards. It is known in advance that if you tested a large batch of poles, there will always be some variation around the value chosen to represent the ultimate fibre stress. This is taken into account, to some degree, by load factors and strength factors that can vary by pole type. Wooden poles are known to vary the most, while any manufactured pole is believed to have minimal variations in strength.

There is a new download file available for IUSI Steel poles. This new file should be used for all new projects. If you have IUSI poles in your existing projects and have overloaded poles (130% or less), you are recommended to download this file and re-evaluate the pole. To refresh the new pole data into your project, change the model of the steel pole to something else, then change it back again. This will ensure a new copy of the pole data is placed into your project.
