Wind Direction Notes - 6.72.27

Unread postby Sonideft » Wed Feb 21, 2018 10:07 am

Fixing the wind direction on a structure in Analysis Options will now also fix it for the guys and anchors as well. Previously they reported their worst loads considering all possible wind directions.

The rationale is that the “normal” analysis process will identify and analyze the worst wind direction for the guys and anchors; capturing their worst loads. The Structure often will have a different worst wind direction and also require its own analysis run. So in normal cases there shouldn’t be any extra work required to ensure that all possible wind directions have been considered for either the structure or guys/anchors.

Fixing the wind direction is still available, but should not normally be necessary unless you have a scenario where the pole is failing and you rationalize that the pole is blocked from the wind in different directions; making a different wind direction the worst that it would actually experience. So in a fixed wind scenario, guys, anchors and the structure are evaluated only for this specific wind direction.
