The pull-out capacity of Pole Braces has been adjusted upwards in this update. This is in response to customer feedback and utility experience.
This is an area where further study is required to determine this capacity value more accurately. Previously the pull-out capacity was determined based on the soil class, the taper effects of the brace in the soil and its weight. In addition, the reality is that the pole brace's angle is forced downwards towards the supported pole, as the supported pole starts to deflect due to lack of pole brace support. This puts drastically increased pressure on the soil against the pole brace which is not currently estimated. This is why industry experience is telling us that a basic pull-out calculation is insufficient.
This is an opportunity for a research project, or a research search in the future.
