Attachment Geometric Load Nonlinearity

Unread postby Sonideft » Sun Jan 23, 2022 3:19 pm

As most people know, Quick Pole has two options related to Load Nonlinearity associated with wire attachments. Both change the loads applied to the structure being evaluated, by monitoring the structure's deflections as the nonlinear iterations adjust the structure's deflection to find convergence.

In all nonlinear analysis, the goal is to ensure that the sum of the forces and moments at every node of the structure should be 0.0, or within a certain tolerance of 0.0. This ensures the entire structure is in equilibrium. The load nonlinearity options add extra complexity to this convergence process, varying their loads, but the end goal is still the same. Check out the "Nodal Summary" report for any structure to see how this comes together at the end of any successful (not unstable) analysis.

Regular Load Nonlinearity will vary the tension loads of wire attachments based on fixed positions of the two end structures. Load Geometric Nonlinearity allows the direction of the tensions to also vary as the structure being analyzed deflects. While this last option provides the most accurate assessment in most cases, it should not be used for sections of tangent pole lines. It was previously posted how this can lead to "false" support from the adjacent structures.

If you are using version 6.74.16, please ensure you have all the recent updates/patches to ensure the Regular Load Nonlinearity operates as expected.
